True North Strong: Anansi Storytelling Experience Celebrating Canadian Diversity | Vrai Fort Libre : Récit Anansi Célébrons la diversité canadienne

The Young Leaders Advisory Council (YLAC) in partnership with Canadian Heritage and Tribe1 is proud to present on Canada Day 2019 the first ever True North Strong: Anansi Storytelling Canada Day Experience.

Join us and thousands of young people from the nation’s capital as we activate Major’s Hill Park on June 30 – July 1, 2019 (11:00 am – 7:00 pm). Experience the National Capital Region through the lens of a new era of urban creatives. We’ll show the world what it means to be TRUE. NORTH. STRONG. AND FREE during a series of activities led by Canada’s racialized youth.

The event will feature five discovery activation experiences:

  • YLAC’s signature Sankofa Drumming Circle For All Seven Generations with Elder Quammie Williams and Leslie Harrison;
  • Interactive Canada Day Slam Poetry and Cypher workshops courtesy of Cap City Cyphers;
  • Elephant Stories Garden featuring Karlyn Percil-Mercieca and her Sister Talk Team;
  • Canadian Barber Throwdown led by Cuts for Kids;
  • Never Was Average interactive art installation and
  • Various cultural exchanges with urban storytellers through the Connecting The Dots “Take A Story, Leave A Story” Virtual Reality activation zone!
  • First of its kind Headwrap Challenge hosted by Deka Fashion Trends

Do not miss your opportunity to beat to the rhythm of the drumming circle, bob to beat of the poetic verses, and experience the eclectic exuberance of our visual art exhibits.

P.S. – Don’t forget to BYOD – Bring Your Own Drums! We’ll be jammin’ all day!
